My apartment building is pretty spooky with no lights. It was built in 1850 and housed Abraham Lincoln's portrait photographer. I found it in January. I don't live in the staircase.
The police directed traffic and pedestrians from every street corner.
The city took on a different pace when the lights were out. The AT&T building (on the right) managed to look more creepy than usual. Notice the lack of windows and the excess of lights.
City hall buzzed. Cars backed up and people shuffled along. All sorts walked by: families, the old, and those simply out to see.
Headlights provided almost all of the illumination.
Most of us were on our way to the Brooklyn Bridge.
The media had showed up and every other person had a camera.
I started across the bridge. Tens of thousands crossed with me. A concourse was set aside for New Yorkers on foot.
We walked through darkness.
Towards home.
